Indonesian Maid, Abused & Raped..

Malaysia has condemned the abuse of Indonesian maids after a 26-year-old woman was raped and scalded, in an attempt to quell rising anger over the issue. The maid, from East Java, was rescued by a passerby after her employers, a 41-year-old building contractor and his wife, abandoned her at the roadside.

"The government of Malaysia strongly condemns all forms of abuse against any worker, regardless of nationality or sector of employment," Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said in a statement.  "It is regretful this incident took place, despite repeated advice to Malaysian employers of domestic workers," he said, in a rare move that signals the issue's potential to further damage ties between the neighbours.
There are about 1.2 million documented Indonesian workers in Malaysia, as well as about 800,000 Indonesians working illegally. Malaysia and Indonesia have been working to establish official working conditions for maids, but negotiations are making a slow progress due to disagreement over proposed minimum wage.

In Jakarta, Indonesian activists were back demonstrating againt Malaysia over this case. About 300 activist in a convoy and called themselves the Anti Malaysia Youth Alliance but however dominated by a group called Benteng Demokrasi Rakya (Bendera).  In their speeches, they condemned the alleged physical and sexual abuse of TKW by her employer.

  1. the problem is most workers come to foreign countries illegally. Obviously they are worry that if they report the mistreating from their employer they will taken into custody for entering the country without proper legal documents.
